Shark PowerDetect IP1251UKT vs IP3251UKT: Is Clean & Empty Worth the Upgrade?

If you've decided that Shark PowerDetect is the cordless vacuum range for you, there's one more decision to make.

Do you choose the Shark PowerDetect IP1251UKT, or step up to the Shark PowerDetect Clean & Empty IP3251UKT?

The important thing to understand is that you're not necessarily paying more for dramatically better cleaning performance.

Both models belong to Shark's PowerDetect range and share many of the same core cleaning technologies.

The biggest difference is what happens after you've finished vacuuming.

The IP1251UKT is a conventional cordless vacuum that you empty manually.

The major upgrade is Shark's Auto-Empty Base.

When you've finished cleaning, return the vacuum to the dock.

The base automatically removes collected dirt and debris from the vacuum and begins charging it.

Shark says the base can store debris for up to 45 days.

Instead of:

Vacuum, Empty dust cup, Store vacuum, Charge vacuum

your routine becomes:

Vacuum, Dock

That is the main reason to choose the IP3251UKT.

Is the Auto-Empty Base Bagless?

Yes.

Shark's Auto-Empty Base is bagless, so you don't need to continually buy replacement dust bags.

The larger base will still need to be emptied eventually, but considerably less often than the onboard dust cup.

The base also includes Anti-Odour Technology and an Anti-Allergen Complete Seal.

For customers who vacuum frequently, particularly in homes with pets, these extra convenience features may be genuinely useful.

Which Is Better for Pet Hair?

In terms of cleaning tools, both models are very similar.

Both feature Anti Hair Wrap Plus, which is designed to reduce hair becoming tangled around the brush roll.

Both UKT models also include a Motorised Pet Tool for cleaning hair from sofas, stairs and upholstery.

So we wouldn't choose the IP3251UKT purely because you expect it to pick up significantly more pet hair.

However, the Auto-Empty Base can make the IP3251UKT more convenient in a home with heavily shedding pets.

Pet hair can fill a cordless vacuum's dust cup quickly. With the IP1251UKT, you empty that hair manually. With the IP3251UKT, the dock does it for you.

Which Takes Up More Space?

The IP1251UKT is the easier option for smaller homes.

Without a large Auto-Empty Base, it requires less floor space and is easier to accommodate in a cupboard or utility area.

Its Flexology design also helps with compact storage.

The IP3251UKT requires a dedicated area for its docking station.

If you have an obvious place for the dock, that may not matter.

If space is limited, the IP1251UKT may make considerably more sense.

Is Clean & Empty Worth It?

This really depends on how often you vacuum and how much you dislike emptying the dust cup.
